Yamauba 山姥
The woman of the mountains, rendered in English as mountain witch or mountain crone. Beside the oni she is the Japanese man-eater an English reader is most likely to have met, and one early collection of Japanese legends, compiled in 1913, filed her under dog-god and werewolf legends.
